Post 250 History
The American Legion Post in Louisburg received their charter at a special meeting held October 5, 1932. It would carry the name John P. Hand – Post #250 to honor the first man from Louisburg to have lost his life fighting for freedom in World War I. The charter was presented by State Adjutant Ernest Ryan to 62 surviving veterans of World War I. Among those charter members were names that still ring in our community today… Rosner, Knecht, Windisch, Grimes, Knop.
To date, The American Legion family in Louisburg, consisting of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of The American Legion and The American Legion Riders, represents an active membership of more than 650 combined total members. Since 1932, together they have played an active role in support of our community, youth, and most importantly veterans and their families.

Patriotic Days
MEMORIAL DAY has always been an outstanding occasion in this community. In addition to memorial events throughout the Louisburg community, the goal of every Veteran to it's last man is to keep MEMORIAL DAY sacred to the memory of our war dead of all of the wars of the country; and all graves are decorated on this National Holiday.
ARMISTICE DAY, now called VETERANS' DAY, originally marked the end of fighting in World War I. It is an important holiday on the calendar of Legionnaires everywhere and in the hearts of all Veterans.
